National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore
Professor Tan Oon Seng, the Director of the National Institute of Education (NIE), reviewed INTEREDU™ and expressed several strengths in it. In general, Professor Tan Oon Seng found INTEREDU™ as a substantial project with a clearly articulated framework that caters to the different needs and stages of teacher preparation, career development and learning. Furthermore, Professor Tan Oon Seng found the range and scope of the training programs in INTEREDU™ relevant and responsive to the needs of educators. He also pointed that the programs are underpinned by sound factual knowledge of theory and practice, incorporate up-to-date developments from educational and learning sciences, and incorporate opportunities for formal learning and certification as well as contextualized and work-based learning.
Professor Tan was previously Dean of Teacher Education at NIE where he spearheaded the Teacher Education for the 21st Century (TE21) initiative as a major milestone innovation for teacher education both nationally and internationally. He also heads the Singapore team for the Global Education Innovation Initiative (GEII) helmed by the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
The NIE is an autonomous institute of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, ranked 10th in the world and 2nd in Asia by the QS World University Rankings in the subject of Education in 2015. The NIE was established in 1950 as a Teachers' Training College is currently the sole teacher education institute for teachers in Singapore.
